The first order of the vonBourgondien Flower Bulbs have been delivered and distributed. We expect the 2nd order to arrive any day now.

We just received a confirmed delivery date for the Gertrude Hawk candy of Tuesday, December 8 to the school from 9-1. If it gets to the school early enough and there is enough help to sort the boxes, it should go home Tuesday. If not, it'll be Wednesday. If you know that you have an order too large for your child to take home, please plan to make arrangements to pick it up.

Thank you for your participation in the Fall Fundraiser!

November 17, 2009
Dear Goochland Elementary School Parents:
On behalf of the Goochland Elementary School PTA, I want to sincerely thank everyone who took part in our fall fundraisers by selling Gertrude Hawk from brochures, on the Internet, the flower bulbs and the straight monetary donations that all go straight to funding PTA projects.
Most of you have received your bulb orders already and we have a confirmed delivery date of December 8 for the Gertrude Hawk candy.
These are very difficult financial times for many people and we understand that. Last fall we sold $22,000 and this year we sold $7700. This year’s goals will need to be adjusted accordingly since we fell short of our expectations by 65%. Our profit so far is $3900.
This is the current breakdown:
We had 87 students take part with the 5th graders leading the pack.

As a reminder, orders can still be placed on-line through the fundraising section of: http://www.gertrudehawkchocolates.com/ until December 11th. If you need further instructions on how to do that, I can send you a copy of the on-line ordering instructions that were given out with the brochures. Shipping charges will apply for them.
We will hold off on announcing the top 3 prize winners until after the Internet ordering deadline, which is December 11th.
We welcome your recommendations for future fundraisers, so please share your ideas with the PTA by sending your suggestions now or at anytime to the main PTA mailbox: GESPTAVOICE@aol.com or use the PTA suggestion box across from the school office.
If you have any questions or issues regarding this Fundraising campaign, please don’t hesitate to contact me and check the web log for updates. http://ges-sc-pta.blogspot.com/

2009/2010 Fundraisers

Chairperson: Colleen Williams
Co-Chairperson: Open

Please consider signing up to help us this year!

We have a number of fundraisers planned for this year and are always evaluating different opportunities and always welcome your comments and suggestions.

contact me at: gesptavoice@aol.com

Please understand that there is no obligation whatsoever to take part in any fundraiser that we sponsor. Everyone’s situation is different and some may be willing and able to take part and others not. This is totally fine. You can also elect to make a direct donation as opposed to purchasing and/or selling products. That is always appreciated and welcomed as well. Many PTA's across the country are moving towards donation drives prior to deciding to sell products.

Our fundraisers cover expenses related to:
  • Funding certain committees such as Hospitality, which provides food and other gifts of appreciation for teachers at certain times of the year.
  • SOL Tutoring
  • Supplementing costs of 5th grade graduation
  • End of Year Field Day
In 2008/2009, we additionally
  • Purchased additional Sports Equipment needed for Physical Education Classes this year.
  • An additional Promethean ActivBoard for the school like the one in the media center which is a top request of theirs.
  • We always do our best to fund different Theater Arts and concert programs for the student body to supplement their arts education such as Theater IV. which we did in 2008/2009
  • Brought in Operation Blue Thunder – Internet Safety Program at a PTA meeting in 2008/2009
  • Supplemented the expense of the GES Reads One School, One Book Program in 2008/2009
The PTA receives prioritized wish lists from the principal and teachers and then determine which ones we can afford to provide that meet the criteria for how PTA funds should be spent.

We will continue to strive to keep the PTA 3 to 1 rule in mind with our Fundraising efforts so as not to seem like we are only a money-making organization. You can read more about this philosophy on the Virginia PTA website HERE.

Brochure Programs
We have decided on Gertrude Hawk and van Bourgondien bulbs for our Fall brochure program. These are the ones we did last Spring after evaluating the Fall fundraiser results and finding we came up short on our projections to meet some of our project goals.

You can preview the Fall Bulb Brochure HERE.
You can preview the 2008 Gertrude Hawk brochure HERE. The 2009 one is not online yet but we do have copies.

We will introduce and kickoff the fundraisers at Back to School Night in September. We will have samples of their chocolates available for you to try!

Spirit Wear
We still have a small number of shirts and sweatshirts in some sizes available for immediate sale. We will them on display and sale at Kindergarten Orientation and Business Day Thursday, Aug. 20. We are also meeting with Goochland Tee's and others to discuss some additional options on our Spirit Wear this year to perhaps make it more appealing to more people. Again, please submit any comments or suggestions on what appeals to you and we will present some options at a later date.

Turn in your order forms! Deadline 2/27!

Please get your Gertrude Hawk and van Bourgondien bulb order forms and money sent into school by Friday February 27. The final order will be compiled and mailed out on Monday March 2. Afterwhich, you can still order on-line at Gertrude Hawk until April 3 for your child to get credit and the school gets the profit.

Consider setting up your on-line profile at Gertrude Hawk as is explained in your fundraiser packet and send the e-mail it creates out to friends and family so they can support our school. They can then either have the products delivered to the school with the main order or pay s&h to have it delivered directly to their home.

On-line orders accept credit cards so you can order that way as well if you'd prefer that over sending in your brochure. On-line orders placed before end of February can be delivered to the school with the main order with free shipping.

ANY questions, please feel free to contact me.
Mrs. Colleen Williams

Peanut Butter Products are SAFE at Gertrude Hawk Chocolates

This is a letter that I received from Gertrude Hawk Chocolates in regards to the recent peanut product recalls because of salmonella issues with products from PCA Peanut Corporation of America.

They assure us that their products do not contain any peanuts or peanut products which are involved in the voluntary nationwide recall of Peanut Corporation of America including all products processed since January 1, 2007. Products include retail, fundraising, wholesale and private label.

If you click on the image, you will be able to read it better and print if you'd like.

Please support our Spring Fundraiser!

The Goochland Elementary and Specialty Center PTA will conduct two more fundraisers in time for Spring delivery. They will run simultaneously, giving a choice of two different types of product for your consideration.

Gertrude Hawk candy which includes mostly Easter chocolates such as bunnies, eggs and crosses. We will get these delivered to us for distribution in time for Easter, before the Spring Break.

Van Bourgondien Dutch Bulbs which will be delivered to us at an appropriate planting time, starting mid March. We will try to have this coincide with candy delivery if possible.

Deadline for submitting completed order forms WITH payment to GES/SC PTA Friday, February 27.

Gertrude Hawk allows on-line ordering where your friends and family can order on-line giving credit to a specific student at GES/SC. Our group# is 707143 each child has their own 3 digit suffix to that. If ordered by end of February, the order can be delivered with the main school order and delivered by the student. Otherwise, orders can be placed on-line until April 3 and shipped directly to the person ordering and shipping charges will apply. Please contact a GES/SC student that you know to get their link.

Any issues or questions with this, feel free to
contact me .

Please adhere to this deadline so that our volunteer parents have enough time to tabulate order forms and monies and get the orders submitted in time for prompt delivery. We also ask that you take a minute before returning your forms to verify that the forms are complete and correct, and your total order amount matches the money you turn in. This saves us a lot of time in the process.

Please understand that there is no obligation whatsoever to take part in this or any fundraiser that we sponsor. Everyone’s situation is different and some may be willing and able to take part and others not. This is totally fine. You can also elect to make a donation as opposed to purchasing and/or selling products. That is always appreciated and welcomed as well.

We have decided to run a Spring fundraiser this year in addition to the successful Fall Virginia Diner fundraiser because we did not meet our 2008/2009 budget’s fundraising goal that had been established to cover certain costs and projects. In an effort to keep those plans in place and not have to make cuts, we are hoping to make up the difference with this endeavor.

Our fundraisers cover expenses related to funding certain committees such as Hospitality, which provides food and other gifts of appreciation for teachers at certain times of the year, SOL Tutoring, supplementing costs of 5th grade graduation, and the end of year Field Day. We also purchased additional Sports Equipment needed for the PE classes this year. We do our best to fund different Theater Arts and concert programs for the student body to supplement their arts education.

In the event that we raise more funds than we need to cover this year’s budgeted expenses, in light of the recent well-publicized and unexpected school budget cuts, we will be in a position to vote on and approve any additional assistance to student enrichment programs in the school next year.

We will continue to strive to keep the PTA 3 to 1 rule in mind with our Fundraising efforts so as not to seem like we are only a money-making organization.

Thank you and if you have any questions or issues regarding this Fundraising project, please don’t hesitate to contact me or anyone else on the PTA Board.

Mrs. Colleen Williams
